This project is Gibraltar's first modular construction project and forms part of the Gibraltar Government's National Economic Development Plan. With a total construction area of 12,000 square meters and 11 above-ground floors, it comprises three core parts: a cast-in-place modular support platform, a concrete core tube, and modular habitable units. The modular construction component accounts for over 70% of the total floor area, with 226 building modules in total, including 189 guest rooms, 9 reception rooms, 9 multi-functional rooms for office and storage, and 19 stairwell and elevator rooms.

The modules were shipped across the ocean to Gibraltar in early 2023. The modules installation were finished in only two weeks. CIMC has efficiently supported the development of key infrastructure for local livelihood security.

Gibraltar is a peninsula at the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula, bordering Spain to the north and facing North Africa across the sea to the south.  As one of Europe's financial centers, it enjoys great strategic importance and is widely known for its location on the Strait of Gibraltar — one of the busiest maritime shipping lanes in the world.

Located along the coast, the elderly care apartment has high performance requirements in terms of seismic resistance, fire protection, sound insulation and daylighting. In addition to being designed and built in accordance with UK standards, the entire building must also satisfy 8-degree seismic fortification requirements and a two-hour fire resistance rating.

Furthermore, from the initial design phase, the project team embraced the philosophy of "caring for the elderly as we care for our own elders". Overcoming various challenges and making every effort, the team incorporated thoughtful care for the elderly into every detail, such as meeting full spatial requirements for wheelchair users, installing support fittings including handrails and backrests, applying high-performance anti-slip flooring, and providing unobstructed double-swing doors.

British architects have stated on multiple occasions that China's modular technology is not only highly advanced but also in line with the global trends of the construction industry. Through the perfect integration of Chinese modular construction technology and British design concepts, the project has been successfully delivered in Southern Europe.
